A funny thing happened on our way back from Madison Square Eats yesterday. We ran across an old, beat-up truck serving delicious frozen lemonade.

The truck is called Del’s NYC, and after a little research (thanks Gothamist), we found out these guys are HUGE in Rhode Island. According to the sign, they have been “Serving happiness in a cup since 1948″ and are currently located in Newport, RI.

On the truck was a sign called The Story, which recounts how the recipe was invented in Naples, Italy in 1840 by the current owner’s great grandfather.

We normally prefer the flavor of watermelon over lemon, but when Del’s logo is a frosted lemon, we got the hint and ordered a small frozen lemonade for $3.50. A medium is $4.25 and large is $5.00.

Dessert Alert: Black Sesame Ice Cream from Itizy

Spring is most definitely here. In the country, things are turning green, and in the city, things are turning green too, with the Itizy Ice Cream truck back on the street. (It’s more like turquoise, but let’s not quibble.)

Spring is the time for rebirth, and that includes a number of new menu items from Itizy. In addition to new ice cream and sorbet flavors, they now have a small waffle iron for making waffle cones on the spot. Below Ann shows off the waffle iron with her best Vanna White impersonation. I’d like to buy an “I” please.

Grom Gelateria Now Has A Cart

We couldn’t miss Grom when they first opened a couple of years ago on the corner of Bleecker and Carmine St. Living in the neighborhood, we walk past that corner at least twice a week.

Then they opened a 2nd NYC shop on Broadway between 58-59 St, right by the 1 train exit we use every weekday. We see them coming and going almost daily.

Today we exited the 1 train at Columbus Circle and saw them loading up a Grom cart with supplies for the day. The guy in the car pulling the cart said it’s parked on 72nd St & 5th Ave, right by Central Park.

We haven’t had a chance to try the cart, but if it stocks up on supplies from the store, it will be delicious. Just be prepared to pay $6 or $7 for gourmet gelato or sorbet.

The goods from Grom are great, but damn expensive.

The Grom website is here, if you want to read about their philosophy, see their products and flavors, and count how many outlets they have around the world.

We spotted a new donut truck yesterday on Varick St by Vandam, and it turned out to be their very 1st day on the street.

Carpe Donut serves freshly-made hot organic donuts, hibiscus iced tea and hot apple cider.

We tried a donut, which is made by their very own Donut Robot in the truck.
