R.I.P. Bistro Truck (2009-2012)

We received some sad news last night. Bistro Truck is not coming back to the NYC streets this spring.

According to Yassir Raouli, chef and owner, permit issues and the chaotic status of the NYC food truck industry were two of the prime reasons behind his decision.

Of course, it doesn’t leave much time for a food truck when you have a restaurant to run.

We have many fond memories of Bistro Truck, and one of the highlights has to be their 1st Birthday Party. On the same day they were celebrating 1 year on the street, Yassir found out that Bistro Truck was named as a 2010 Vendy Award Finalist. Now that was a day for celebration!

Even with the restaurant, Rustic L.E.S. keeping him very busy, Yassir still has plans for the future.

Bistro Truck Closing Soon For Season, But You Will Still Be Able To Get Lunch

October 16th, 2012

We just spoke with Yassir from Bistro Truck, who told us that Bistro Truck will close at the end of October for the winter. That’s only a couple of weeks away.

Yes, that’s sad news, but there’s a silver lining! You’ll still be able to get a Bistro Truck lunch during the off season…and you won’t even have to wait outside in the cold.

Rustic L.E.S. Knocks It Out Of The Park

October 9th, 2012

Saturday night we had dinner at Rustic L.E.S., stopping in to see the new restaurant opened by our friend, Yassir Raouli.

We’re sure you all know Yassir, who founded Bistro Truck in 2009, and was a Vendy Awards Finalist in 2010.

Rustic L.E.S. opened 2 weeks ago, but we’ve been out of town twice since it opened, and were not able to get there until this weekend.

Street Eats: Chicken Brochette Sandwich from Bistro Truck

Bistro Truck is one of the stalwarts of the New York street food scene. They have been around for a few years, and were Vendy Award Finalists in 2010.

Bistro Truck is also in the process of opening a restaurant on the Lower East Side called Rustic, so this visit was a good opportunity to see if the quality at the truck has dropped at all.

One thing I like about Bistro Truck is you can get a fancy meal such as chicken tajine or lump crab cakes with couscous, but you can also get a great sandwich.

That’s what I did recently, ordering a chicken brochette sandwich for $7.

Street Eats: Roasted Lamb Shoulder & Couscous from Bistro Truck

June 1st, 2012

One of the higher quality food trucks around the NYC area is Bistro Truck.  They use top-notch ingredients and put care into every aspect of the meal, even the salad.

Bistro Truck was off the road over the winter, and when they came back, permit problems kept them off the road for a month longer than anticipated. Now that everything’s straightened out, make sure to stop by for one of the best street food lunches in NYC.

As you know, we are long-time fans of Bistro Truck and have tried most of their menu, but roasted lamb shoulder for $10 was a new menu item. The platters at Bistro Truck come with a salad and choice of rice or couscous.
