NYSF IS TAKING A LONG WEEKEND OFF

April 19th, 2012

We’re heading down to Florida tonight to visit some relatives over a long weekend.  Gotta see ‘em while they’re still around.

We expect to be incommunicado most of the weekend, so if you email or DM us, don’t expect a quick response.

Don’t know if it will be possible, but if we can get to any South Florida food trucks, we will share them with you next week.

Apologies to those who cannot access twitter at work, but there will not be a Mobile Munchies post on Fri or Mon.  If you can access twitter at work, the full, unexpurgated twitter feed is here.

Everything will be back to normal at NYSF on Tuesday morning.  Unless of course my jet crashes.

CLASSIC MOVIES & FOOD TRUCKS AT THE TRIBECA DRIVE-IN

April 19th, 2012

One of the more fun things to do at the Tribeca Film Festival is the Drive-In.  Not only is it free, but watching a classic movie outdoors by the water is just a great time.  I haven’t been to one in a number of years, but did see Grease and another film I can’t recall the following year.

With the space opening at 6pm and the movie not starting until dark, we brought our own food for a picnic, and they gave away popcorn for the movie.

Boy how things have changed.  Now you can have great food from some of the best food trucks in NYC while you wait for the movie to begin.

NYSF NEW FOOD TRUCK ALERT: FUN BUNS NYC

April 17th, 2012

We caught up with Diana from Bian Dang last month, when they returned to the street after winter hibernation.  Diana hinted to me about a new truck they would be coming out with soon, but played coy about the concept.

If you want to check out “real” street food from different parts of Latin America, you should read this article.

We’ve heard about the late night street food tour of Roosevelt Ave in Queens when the Vendy Awards people tweeted about it.  It’s run by Jeff Orlick, a local resident, who recently took someone from Serious Eats on the tour, who wrote about it.

Click here for the article, which has mouth-watering pictures, as well as info on the tour itself.

NEW FOOD TRUCK ALERT: LA SUPERIOR

April 16th, 2012

From Grub Street:  The team behind La Superior in Williamsburg is launching a taco truck in the next few weeks.

Dubbed Ruta 1, after the microbuses that are a popular transit option in Mexico City, the mobile eatery will hit various parts of Manhattan during the week, and stick to Brooklyn on weekends.

They plan to offer tacos and a few other favorites, including torta ahogada, grilled alambres, shucked corn known as ezquites, and rice & beans.

The plan is to launch the week after next.  We can’t find a twitter feed yet, so we’ll keep your eye on La Superior’s website for more info, and pass it along to you as we get it. [Grub Street]
