TODAY’S LUNCH: BADEMJAN WRAP FROM THE COMME CI COMME CA TRUCK

July 20th, 2011

After having street food for lunch every day for nearly the past two years, I’ve had most of the regular menu items from the better vendors.  That means when I see a special that looks appealing, I want to try it.

That was certainly the case when I saw the Bademjan Wrap ($6) from the Comme Ci Comme Ca truck, which I got for Today’s Lunch.

Chef Samir also gave me small containers of his 4 different sauces to try – spicy mint, Casablanca, spicy Andalusian and green olive (below, left to right).

TODAY’S LUNCH: GRILLED LEMON CHICKEN OVER BASMATI RICE FROM THE COMME CI COMME ÇA TRUCK

I was just below Times Square again today, and decided to stop by the Comme Ci, Comme Ca truck for lunch.

The truck moves around to several locations throughout the week, but is by 38th St & Broadway pretty regularly.  To be sure, check their twitter account here before heading over.

I was thinking of trying the chicken stroganoff, but when I got to the truck, it was crossed off the menu.  Chef Samir told me that not enough people ordered it to keep it on the menu.

Today’s Lunch is grilled lemon chicken over basmati rice ($6), but there were a few other side dishes that came with it, as well as two sauces.

TODAY’S LUNCH: BASMATI ROYAL FROM THE COMME CI COMME CA TRUCK

truck

The Comme Ci Comme Ça truck is definitely one of the better new food trucks around, with Chef Samir keeping the quality high on his dishes.  They ran into a string of bad luck a few months ago, with Chef Samir having elbow surgery and one of his chefs sustaining some serious burns, but they seem to be hitting their stride now.

While the Comme Ci, Comme Ça truck is best known for its cous cous dishes, Chef Samir recently introduced a line of basmati dishes with various meats or veggies that I wanted to try.

Today’s Lunch is the Basmati Royal for $10, which is about the most I want to pay for lunch, but this dish looked like it was loaded with goodies, and I couldn’t resist.  It was also a way to sample the different meats to see which ones I like best.

TODAY’S LUNCH: MERGUEZ SANDWICH FROM THE COMME CI COMME ÇA TRUCK

I saw on twitter that Chef Samir was back on the street with the Comme Ci, Comme Ça Truck.  This was one of the more promising new trucks in the middle of the summer, but misfortune has reared its ugly head a couple of times, and they have only been on the street sporadically since then.

The first time I had cous cous with beef, when the guy in front of me ordered the last cous cous with merguez.  It was pretty good, but I really love merguez sausage, which is made with lamb.

Today’s Lunch is the merguez sandwich with caramelized onions, roasted tomatoes, green peppers and green olives ($7.50).
