TODAY’S LUNCH: FALAFEL SANDWICH FROM THE QUICK STOP KOSHER TRUCK

March 2nd, 2011

truck

I had to be near Penn Station around lunchtime, and decided to take a walk over to the Quick Stop Kosher truck.  I ran across this truck the first week they were out last July, and now they usually park on 9th Ave between 33rd & 34th St, in front of the B&H Photo store.

Last year I had their cheese blintzes, which were pretty good.  Today’s Lunch is a falafel sandwich ($5.50) from the Quick Stop Kosher truck.

TODAY’S LUNCH: CHEESE BLINTZES FROM THE NEW QUICK STOP TRUCK

July 9th, 2010

truck side

I ran across the new Quick Stop truck last week as I walking back to my office after picking up a chicken souvlaki from Uncle Gussy’s brand new truck.  Definitely a bunch of new trucks around.  The Quick Stop truck was on 52nd St between Park and Lexington Ave last week, but today it was on the SE corner of 52nd St and Lexington Ave.

The Quick Stop truck is kosher and has a deep fryer for falafel and french fries, various sandwiches, omelettes, bagels, panini, caesar salad and something that caught my eye right away, cheese blintzes with sour cream – an old favorite going back to my childhood.

Being a kosher truck, they don’t mix meat and dairy, and this truck was dairy – so don’t expect any meat (although you can get a tuna sandwich).  Quick Stop also has desserts like milkshakes, strawberry, banana or mango slushes and waffles (although their waffles certainly won’t have bbq pulled pork).

Today’s Lunch is 2 cheese blintzes with sour cream for $5.

NYSF FIRST LOOK: QUICK STOP KOSHER

June 30th, 2010

Quick Stop truck

As I was heading back to the office with Today’s Lunch in my hand, a truck I had not seen before was in the process of parking on 52nd St between Park & Lex Ave.  The truck is called Quick Stop and features various kosher food items.

I spoke with Yitzhak and he told me they were a brand new truck.  He said they have falafel, french fries, various sandwiches, omelettes, bagels, panini, cheese blintzes with sour cream (an old favorite of mine)  and a caesar salad.

They also have some desserts including milkshakes, strawberry, banana or mango slushes and…waffles!  Now that’s wandering into dangerous territory!  Do I smell another waffle challenge?

Yitzhak said they will be on 52nd St between Park & Lex at least for the next week.  Quick Stop has a website and a page on facebook, but no twitter account yet.  I suggested he get a twitter account right away.  You can also call them at 212-674-6666.

If anyone tries Quick Stop, please drop us a quick note.  We would love to hear from you.

TODAY’S LUNCH: CHICKEN SHAWARMA ON PITA FROM UNIVERSITY PITA

May 19th, 2010

storefront

I’ve walked by University Pita several times.  It’s on 12th Street just west of University Place, almost next door to Num Pang, one of my favorite places.  University Pita caters a lot to NYU students, who receive significant discounts.  We put University Pita in our Honorary Street Food category, as it is basically a storefront with no seating.  It is also glatt kosher, if that matters to you.

The Yelp reviews rave about their falafel, but after seeing a large, juicy spit of chicken roasting, I opted for the chicken shawarma sandwich.  They also have a salad bar from which you select the items to go in your order.

TODAY’S LUNCH: CRISPY CHICKEN ON A BAGUETTE FROM KOSHER OASIS

April 19th, 2010

cart

You can’t help but notice the Kosher Oasis cart on West 47th St between 6th & 7th Ave.  The design of the cart certainly makes it stand out from most of the other street carts, and does somewhat evoke an oasis in the middle of New York.  If the food is as good as the design of the cart, I will be a happy man.
