TODAY’S LUNCH: COMBO PLATTER OVER RICE FROM LITTLE MOROCCO

April 1st, 2011

Just like with my recent visit to Kabab Express, I had not been to the Little Morocco cart on the NE corner of 39th St & 7th Ave in about a year.  They are one of the few carts that has fish over rice, which is what initially caught my attention.  They also had a short line and steady stream of what appeared to be regulars coming up to the cart.

It’s been a while since I had a chicken and lamb over rice platter, and since that’s what most people seemed to order, I did the same thing.

Today’s Lunch is a combo platter over rice ($5) from Little Morocco.

TODAY’S LUNCH: COMBO OVER RICE FROM LA BAGUETTE CAFE TRUCK

November 2nd, 2010

truck

Maybe I didn’t get enough salt over the past few days because today for lunch I was in the mood for a classic street meat lunch of chicken and (gyro) lamb over rice.

I happened to be in the Times Square area, so I went to the La Baguette Cafe truck on the SE corner of 40th St and Broadway.  Previously, I had a kofte over rice from these guys that was decent.  Time to try something else.

Today’s Lunch is chicken and lamb over rice ($5.50) from the La Baguette Cafe truck.

NYSF Note: This lunch review is from about 10 days ago, which we didn’t have a chance to post previously.

About 6 months ago, I tried fish over rice from the Little Morocco cart on the NE corner of 39th St & 7th Ave.  They had a pretty standard street food menu, so I wanted to see how they did on the gold standard of New York Street Food, chicken over rice.

Today’s Lunch is chicken over rice ($5) from the Little Morocco cart.

Carnegie John at work

I was looking through some of my past lunches and realized that I haven’t had chicken over rice from Carnegie John’s in over 6 months.  That’s a long time since having one of my favorite street food lunches.  Time to rectify the situation.

Today’s Lunch is chicken over rice ($6) from Carnegie John’s cart on West 56th St, just east of 7th Ave, (right behind Carnegie Hall).  Would it be as good as I remembered?

TODAY’S LUNCH: CHICKEN OVER RICE FROM SAMMY’S HALAL

September 7th, 2010
Queens cart

Sammy (in black coat) at the Queens cart

I’ve walked by Sammy’s Halal cart on the NE corner of 6th Ave and West 4th St in Greenwich Village a few times.  Sammy’s Halal won the 2nd Vendy Award in 2006 for his cart on Broadway and 73rd St in Jackson Heights, Queens.  Since then, Sammy has expanded with additional carts on East 4th St near Broadway in the East Village and the one I went to in the West Village.  It’s tough to miss the giant picture of the Vendy Award on the side of the cart.

How has the food changed since Sammy’s won the Vendy Award in 2006?  I didn’t try it back then, but I can tell you how it is now.  Today’s Lunch is chicken over rice from Sammy’s Halal ($5).
