The Street Vendor Project announced today that Helena Tubis, Managing Director of the Vendy Awards for the past three years, is stepping down to pursue an opportunity with 2010 Vendy Best Dessert Winner, Kelvin Natural Slush Co.

“Helena grew the Vendy Awards into a national brand,” said Sean Basinski, Director of the Street Vendor Project at the Urban Justice Center, which now holds the Vendys in Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles, and New Orleans in addition to New York. “We thank her for all of her hard work and look forward to collaborating with her in the future.”

In addition to expansion to other cities, Tubis helped grow the Vendys corporate partnerships. In 2013, the Vendys were sponsored by Every Day with Rachel RayMagazine, Tide to Go, and Scope, among others.

The Street Vendor Project announced an immediate search for a new Vendys Managing Director. “So many people are looking to do work at the intersection of food and social justice,” said Basinski. “That is what this position all about.” The posting for the position is here. Applications will be accepted through November 27, 2013.

Helena will start work in December as the Director of Sales and Marketing at Kelvin Natural Slush Co, leading their wholesale expansion into restaurants and bars around the country. They’ve invited us to some tastings, and we had a great time giving opinions on things like Ginger Red Pepper Margaritas.

We’ve known the Kelvin guys since they first came on the scene, and Alex and Zack are two of the nicest people we know (even if they did start out as lawyers).

Guess there will be a lot more of this in Helena’s future. Congratulations to all!
