Vacation in NYC

How many of you go on vacation in the Big Apple and return amazed, a bit tired, and 10 pounds heavier than when you left? If that sounds familiar, here are several ways to enjoy your NYC vacation without the worry of gaining weight or missing your exercise time.

Don’t Overindulge

Most people consume more calories and fat when eating out. One way to limit that is to use portion control in restaurants. Order a half-size dish or share an entrée when you visit an tourist destination like Kat’s Delicatessen. Take leftovers back to the hotel with you and put them in your room’s mini fridge. Don’t deprive yourself of the delectable foods you love. Instead of feasting on the high-calorie desserts and other treats, just have a taste. One or two bites won’t hurt, and you won’t feel deprived, and if you do eat too much after all – maybe take your fat burner supplement.

Sneak in Exercise

You’re on vacation, and that means sightseeing and other activities you don’t normally do. Ditch the famous yellow NYC taxis and walk the streets instead. See the sights and get in your daily exercise at the same time. You can also go for a swim, play golf, or rent a bike and ride through Central Park. If you prefer to finally get your own pair – check out these bikes under 200. NYC offers wonderful walking tours and bike paths, which are fantastic ways to explore the city without missing your daily workout.

Play Exercise Games

Have fun by making exercise a game. For example, for every alcoholic drink you enjoy at the famoud 169 Bar in Chinatown, do 10 push-ups in the morning. Maybe do 50 squats when you overindulge at a meal. You’ll still have your fun, but you won’t pay as high a price. Ask your traveling companions to help keep you on track. They’ll enjoy asking if you did your push-ups, and they may decide to join you.

Drink Water

Make sure you drink enough water. Take a bottle of water everywhere you go. If you’re spending more time in the sun than usual, maybe on a trip to Coney Island, make sure you stay hydrated. Plus, traveling of any sort throws off your normal body rhythms. The more water you drink, the better your body works, so don’t skimp on hydration.

Stick to the Pyramid

The food pyramid guidelines don’t just apply when eating at home. Even when on vacation in NYC, you need enough servings of fruits and vegetables each day. Getting enough fiber in your diet keeps your digestive tract in order, too. It’s especially important to take your vitamins when you’re traveling and following a different routine.

Take Food on the Road

If you’re driving on your NYC vacation, plan on taking some pre-made meals to pack in a cooler, specially if you don’t want to spend too much on restaurants. A couple of days of meal planning will help you avoid fast food and unhealthy gas station snacks. You’ll also save money by not eating out all the time. However – New York’s Street Food is delicious, and there plenty of healthy options on the way.

Include plenty of healthy snacks. Apples, bananas, and trail mix are great snacks for the car. Take along healthy nut butters, such as almond or pecan. Spread the nut butter on a piece of fruit for an easy snack.

Don’t stress if you indulged in a couple of extra treats. You’re on vacation, in NYC! Just make better food choices next time, stay active, and enjoy yourself.
