Work is a lot different in the 21st century than it was in the past. More people spend less time at their job before taking a new one, and the gig economy enables workers to make a little extra money on how and when they want.

With so many jobs to choose from, why would you want to choose work as a food delivery driver over other options?

You Have Multiple Choices

In the past, the only option you had as a food delivery driver was to work as a pizza or Chinese food delivery driver. Those are still options today. They are a great option for those who want a fairly consistent schedule, and they need someone else to create their schedule for them in order to be motivated to show up to work.

However, you can also choose to be your own boss. There are multiple apps that enable people to order food from anywhere and have it delivered to their door. From DoorDash to UberEats, you have many different choices. You’ll have to prove that you have taken a driving test and have obtained your license. You will need good auto insurance coverage as driving for a delivery service can sometimes cause insurance complications if you’re not properly insured. You may also have to demonstrate how long you have been driving a vehicle.

There are even more driving choices! Many grocery stores offer delivery services. As a driver, you may have to grab the items on someone’s list before delivering them, but in most cases, you will be able to drive a company vehicle instead of your own, which is a perk.

The Hours Are Flexible

Flexibility is increasingly important in the workplace. It comes with many benefits that include:

  • Flexible times to work
  • Flexible number of hours to work
  • Increased productivity
  • More motivation to get things done
  • Feel more in control your life

Most food delivery driver jobs are extremely flexible. When it comes to apps, you can work as little or as much as you like, while more traditional delivery driver jobs will create a schedule that works for you.

However, it is important to note that although there are circumstances where morning deliveries may be requested, most deliveries are made in the afternoon and evening, so the flexibility of being a food delivery driver may not pay off if you’re a morning person.

There’s Less Stress

There is more stress than ever at work. From meeting deadlines to working with difficult coworkers, demanding supervisors, and long hours, there are so many things to be stressed out about! Being a food delivery driver can ease some of that pressure.

There is a lot less to be stressed about when delivering food. The job is fairly simple, and each delivery is over once the food has been dropped off.

Food delivery also includes minimal contact with other people. Minus the time you spend handing over the food, you’ll spend the majority of your time in the car, which makes it a great option for introverts and those who are tired of dealing with others in the workplace.

It Can Pay Well

It’s true that you probably aren’t going to become a millionaire delivering food, but it pays more than most people think.

Most delivery apps pay between $10 and $20 per hour. However, that amount does depend on when and where you’re delivering food. For example, if you’re delivering in New York City, you’ll have the ability to deliver food all day, every day. Smaller towns won’t have the same opportunities to make money.

Times you deliver matter too. Pay rates are higher if you deliver during popular times. For example, you’ll make more money delivering food at 6:00 PM than 9:00 AM.

You Could Enjoy Food Perks

There is the possibility of enjoying food perks, but it does depend on what kind of food delivery job you choose. For example, you probably aren’t going to get any free meals when you work for a food app, because you’ll be delivering for restaurants all over town, but you may get some free meals if you work more consistently for a pizza, Chinese, or sub restaurant.

If you deliver for a grocery store, you’ll have the opportunity to learn more about the latest sales, and you may be able to take home soon-to-be expired products.

You have more options than ever before when it comes to choosing a job that works for you. Whether you’re looking to do something full-time or part-time, becoming a food delivery driver might be the right choice for you.
