TODAY’S LUNCH: SWEET & SPICY SAUSAGE SANDWICH FROM THE PIZZA TRUCK OF NYC

September 20th, 2011

A couple of weeks ago, I received an email from Jeremy Epstein, the new owner of the Pizza Truck of NYC .  He told me that he was the truck’s new owner, and that he would be upgrading the truck’s menu soon.

When the Pizza Truck of NYC came out last year, they were known for $1 slices.  But it’s very difficult to make any money selling $1 slices.

Jeremy told me they were going to start serving sandwiches with bread from Sullivan St Bakery and meats from Faicco’s.  I live a few blocks from Faicco’s, an old school Italian pork store on Bleecker St, and have been going there for a long time for meats and cheeses.

When I got to the truck, there were 3 sandwich choices – sweet & spicy sausage, meatball, and thick-cut pepperoni.  We’ve bought Faicco’s sausages to cook at home many times, so the choice was pretty easy.

Today’s Lunch is a sweet & spicy sausage sandwich ($6) from the Pizza Truck of NYC.

TODAY’S LUNCH: 2ND BITE OF THE NYC PIZZA TRUCK

August 26th, 2010

I was thinking of trying the Mexicue truck again (yesterday), but the lines were too long for a working stiff like me.  However, just up the block was the NYC Pizza Truck with $1 slices, which was a good backup plan for Today’s Lunch.

I happened to stumble upon the NYC Pizza Truck in mid-July, only a couple of days after they opened, and was quite happy with the quality of their $1 slices.  It was much better than the $1 slice I had at the store on 6th Ave in the Village just below 8th St.

Were they still keeping up the quality, and how did the pizza change after the first month of business on the NYC streets.  Let’s find out.  Today’s Lunch is two $1 slices from the NYC Pizza Truck – one corner slice and one middle slice.

NEW YORK STREET FOOD NEWS

July 13th, 2010

truck used

We’ve been manning the communications channels and have some updates for all you New York Street Foodies out there.

  • The new NYC Pizza Truck (above) let us in on some of their future plans.  According to the owner Adam, they are going to be offering thin crust cheese/pepperoni slices, pigs in blankets (yum!) and also soups and salads.  They are still sorting everything out with regard to pricing, but Adam assures us everything will be reasonably priced.
  • If you’ve been wondering why the Calexico Carne Asada cart on Broome St has not been in it’s usual location – their permit expired.  Oops!  The Wooster & Prince cart is not affected and is still there weekdays for lunch.  The Vendley Brothers promise to have the Broome St. cart back in service as soon as possible.
  • For all you frozen yogurt and coffee fans, a new truck called Joyride will be hitting the streets of Manhattan next Wed, July 21st.  Their motto is “Joy In A Cup”.  Their fro yo is made with organic yogurt and raw cane sugar – and you can get it buzzed (with a shot of caffeine) for only $.50 more.  Did we mention Joyride will also be serving Stumptown Coffee with quite an interesting array of coffee drinks, such as the Kubota (3 double shots of espresso infused with vanilla bean and marked with milk).  If that doesn’t put hair on your chest ladies, nothing will!  Full menu here.  Follow them on twitter here.
  • There’s a new Moroccan food truck in town called Comme Ci, Comme Ça (“like this like that” in French) run by Chef Samir.  We haven’t tried it yet, but their specialty is couscous – vegetarian, beef, chicken and merguez sausage.  We love merguez sausage, so look for our review within the next week or so.  Their website is still a tabula rasa, but you gotta love their logo (below).  Follow them on twitter here, although we have also added them to our Mobile Munchies twitter feed.

TODAY’S LUNCH: GRANDMA SLICE ($1!) FROM THE NEW NYC PIZZA TRUCK

July 12th, 2010

truck side 1

I ran across a new food truck on Friday, the NYC Pizza Truck.  It was located on Broadway between 28th & 29th St with a big sign on the windshield saying “Slice of Pizza $1″.

I spoke with the owner, Adam, who asked if we could give him a week or so before reviewing the pizza while they “hammer out the kinks”.

You can’t keep $1 slice pizza a secret for long in this city. If we don’t review it, someone else will, so we’re going ahead with our review.  Just keep in mind they have only been on the street for a week.  Click through for Today’s Lunch.

NEW FOOD TRUCK ALERT: THE NYC PIZZA TRUCK

July 9th, 2010

I found another new food truck today called the NYC Pizza Truck.  It’s located on Broadway between 28th & 29th St and had a big sign on the windshield saying “Slice of Pizza $1″, which attracted a bunch of people.

The guys in the truck directed me to Adam, the owner standing nearby, who said they just opened this week.  For now they only had “Grandma” slices for $1, which he said had fresh mozzarella cheese, tomatoes and oregano.   Adam also told me they were expecting to put new ovens in the truck within the next 2 weeks.

The pizza was square like Sicilian, but didn’t have tomato sauce.  It looked really good, but I already had lunch today, so I just took a picture for now.  Check back Monday around lunchtime for a full review.

Here’s their website and twitter account.  Buon Appetit!
