Nobody knew what to expect in the Best Dessert category. Five of the six finalists were frozen desserts, and while the day started off cool and breezy, it did get warm as the day progressed. Looks like weather would not be a deciding factor.

The Vendy’s decision to start a new category for Best Market Vendor was a good idea, but it also bled into the Best Dessert category, as two of the Best Dessert finalists were market vendors.

One of the newest, and certainly one of the most unique, street vendors around town is a tiny cart called Monsieur Singh Lassi Pops. They’re receiving a lot of attention now because of their well-deserved nomination as a 2012 Vendy Award Best Dessert Finalist.

They opened at the end of July, and we had a NYSF First Look in early August, trying a honey lemon mint lassi pop. It was so interesting (and good), we went back recently to try a different flavor.

NYSF First Look: Monsieur Singh Lassi Pops

August 10th, 2012

You never know what you’ll find if you keep your eyes open in this city.

We got out of the subway at 23rd & 5th to hit Calexico Carne Asada for lunch, and within the first half block, saw a new cart that we had never seen before – Monsieur Singh Lassi Pops, on the block between 23rd & 24th St on the west side of the street.

Calexico always has a bit of a wait, so we placed our order, then went back to check out this new lassi pop cart. The fact that it was close to 90 degrees and humid had nothing to do with it :)
