Our new buddy Tasty Touring recently posted about an interesting new food festival in Austin, the Gypsy Picnic – and she even gets to be a judge in the blind tasting.

The Gypsy Picnic is the first large-scale trailer food festival in Austin, and will be held on Saturday, Nov. 6 from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. at Austin’s Auditorium Shores.

According to the organizers:

“This one-day event will gather the cream of the trailer crop in one convenient location, allowing attendees to easily sample from dozens of trailers. The Gypsy Picnic is also a cook-off for the trailer chefs. The Gypsy Picnic Trailer Cook-off panel of expert judges will conduct blind tastings to select the very best in a variety of categories. The public gets their chance to weigh in with an overall Fan Favorite and other awards. We’ll also be serving up great live tunes all day from the music stage. Admission to Gypsy Picnic is free to the public, and we anticipate about 10,000 attendees over the course of the day.”

The layout of the Gypsy Picnic will mirror the location of the trailers throughout Austin. There will be six different vending areas, each representing a different geographic location. Areas will include East Austin, South Congress, Southside (south of the river – not on S. Congress), Downtown, UT Campus, and Outliers/Rovers.

Each trailer vendor will serve a minimum of two  and a maximum of three menu items that best represent their style. The goal is to allow attendees to sample several trailers. Each trailer food vendor will also be asked to offer at least one item at a smaller size — a “tasting” portion — at no more than $3. [Tasty Touring]

I won’t be able to make it down to Austin for this great event, but I’m sure Tasty Touring will give us all the gory details.
