SCARFACE SANDWICH FROM THE WORLD’S BEST SANDWICH TRUCK

I bet you didn’t know we had the World’s Best Sandwich Truck (WBST) right here in NYC!  (At least, that’s what the side of the truck says.)

The WBST does not travel around the city, it parks in the same place every day – 20th St between Broadway and Park Ave.  They are basically a deli on wheels, with assorted hot and cold sandwiches, but they use Boar’s Head meat and are priced below most delis.  They also have specialty sandwich combinations, which is what I usually get.

I never tried the Scarface, which cost $5.75, so that was my choice for lunch.

The Scarface had hot pastrami, corned beef, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato and Russian dressing on a hero.

This was a tasty sandwich.  There was no fat on the pastrami or corned beef, and while the meat wasn’t at the Katz’s level, the pastrami and corned beef were still good.

I would have liked more than one slice of Swiss cheese, but the Russian dressing was the right condiment for this sandwich.  Mustard would have worked too, but I prefer Russian dressing.

The lettuce and tomato were ok, nothing special, but the hero bread was good.  It was solid enough to hold everything together without getting soggy, but was still soft and easy to eat.

The World’s Best Sandwich Truck may be an overstatement, but the combination sandwiches are solid and very well priced.  The Scarface, Italian or Spanish subs would be around $8 at most delis, but are only $5.75 here.

The truck is decidedly old school in that they don’t use twitter or have a website, but you can find them every weekday on 20th St between 5th Ave & Park Ave.
