Everything about this time of year makes me fall in love with NY again.
Weather is cooling down, perhaps not as quickly as we’d like but it’s happening.
If you don’t pay attention you could miss Fall. My favorite time of year.
It’s the perfect time to take a stroll, take in the sights and smells, try something new and learn about something old.
One of those perfect Saturdays we indulged in that perfect stroll with my new friend Scott Goodfriend and one of his curated Iconic NYC food tours, it was one of the Ultimate Food Tours in New York. This is their website.
The Ultimate Food Tours in New York
6 Food tours to choose from, and we were invited to join the Iconic Food Tours of the Lower East Side.
Scott had his dream job at Meta then sadly Meta laid him off and his department closed.
Living in NY and developing his love of NY and food he would have food outings with his friends discovering the vast history of NY and He began to curate food tours sharing his love of history and food not just for his friends but into a business.
He now has 6 different tours, and 3 different cooking classes, and expanding across the country as far as Vegas.
The Doughnut Plant
Leaving Essex Market our group of 7 had our first stop at perhaps my secret indulgence, The Doughnut Plant.
My joy was hard to be contained knowing we were about to have one of the best doughnuts in NYC.
While enjoying our donuts Scott had some fun facts. The Doughnut Plant’s super power is extremely secrective. The prep is a behind the counter but hidden and paper is covering the windows of the kitchen. Whatever the secrect is it’s Fine by me…the donuts are amazing. My favorite is the Crème Brulé Try to get it warm out of the oven. You will thank me later and your welcome.

Teasing our taste buds the next stop, Williamsburg Pizza
After passing a few landmarks Scott pointed out the Oldest Ukrainian Church in the middle of an unassuming block.
We crossed over to Williamsburg Pizza.
Corner shop. There’s nothing like a slice in NYC. This would be my go to after a night out or a morning after.
Off again to #3. The walking was welcomed as our carb intake was just beginning.
The Cutest Bagel Shop
Nearby we stopped at perhaps the cutest Bagel Shop I’ve ever seen on the Lower East Side on the fringe of Little Italy, Baz’s “cool fun” atmosphere with a few tables in front and a row of stools at the counter waiting for us. Welcome to Baz Bagle.
Oh and the Barbara Streisand poster watching over us didn’t hurt.
Known for their rainbow bagel. Today we had bagels w/lox. My favorite.
Baz hand rolled, boiled and baked this traditional Bagel does not disappoint. But please make note…they do not skimp on the lox. Which make for the perfect lox and bagels.
Also did I mention how cute and funky this place is? It really is and should be the place to meet friends or just show up alone…you’ll make new ones.
Mott Street Eatery
A quick walk through Little Italy and off to Chinatown.
Mott Street Eatery and Sanmigwo for yummy dumplings.
Previously Mott Street Eatery replaced Joy Luck Palace.
Reminding me of one of the very popular food courts in Flushing.
Sanmigwo had some of the best dumplings you can have.
Mott Street Eatery is a bustling food court gathering.
Final Destination: The Best NY Cheesecake
Our final destination saving the best for last. Ferrara.
Perhaps one of the most famous NY icons.
The best of little Italy and the best NY Cheesecake you can have.
Ferrara became America’s first Pasticceria & Espresso Bar in 1892. Today, five generations later, Ferrara continues to produce and ship the finest Italian desserts in the country from the original family-owned bakery on 195 Grand Street in NYC’s Little Italy.
Ultimate Food Tours in New York is one of the best 2 hours you can spend enjoying the taste and history of the city.
Scott is a great storyteller and his knowledge of my city and food is impressive.
It’s always about the people that make this city great.
Spend a few hours with Scott and you will leave knowing more about the warm and treated food that comforts us.
