We headed around the corner to 55th & Broadway for lunch, not sure if we wanted Korilla or Cinnamon Snail. To our surprise, the Our Heros truck was parked between the two.

In mid-October, we were informed by Our Heros that they were closing their doors on the truck, but the downtown cart would still be open.

Speaking with the owner John, he told us today they didn’t expect to reopen the truck, but something happened that he would not be specific about.

There not a lot of information available on this, but it appears the Our Heros truck is history. Yesterday they tweeted “Truck is out of business.”

We got in touch with someone who would rather not be named, who essentially told us the owners were pulling the plug, and that the manager was not committed to the success of the truck.

For now, the Our Heros cart is still operating downtown by Hanover Square, but he also told us “the cart is not producing (income) the way it should.”

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again, food trucks are a tough business with low margins and long hours. Food carts too, but they require a smaller upfront investment.

We’ll keep our eyes and ears open about the Our Heros cart, but please let us know if the cart disappears from its usual spot, as our office is in midtown.

Too bad. We really enjoyed their heros.

Last week we went downtown for lunch and saw a new cart on Hanover Square.  Based on the design, it looked like it was opened by the people behind the Our Heros truck.  We confirmed this with a quick look through our Mobile Munchies twitter feed, where Our Heros referred to their new Slider Cart.

It was around 3pm and rainy, so the cart was closed for the day, but click through for the menu and prices.

One of the newer trucks on the scene is Our Heros.  We trucked down to the Financial District to try them when they first arrived, but it’s tough for us to get down there for lunch.

That’s why it was great news when Our Heros told us they would be coming up to midtown for lunch a couple of days a week.  We caught up with them on 51st St just west of Park Ave, and were immediately confronted with a dilemma – what to order for lunch.

Since we got a cold roast beef hero last time, we wanted to try a hot hero this time.  An eggplant parmigiana hero for $8 sounded just about right.

If you read our Mobile Munchies post this morning, you will have known that Our Heros was making a rare foray into midtown from their usual spot in the Financial District.  Looks like it might not be so rare.
