I have been to the My Biryani cart on 44th St just west of 6th Ave a few times, but never tried their kati rolls.  Time to remedy that situation.  The “gold standard” for kati rolls is Biryani Cart exactly two blocks north, but I already know how good those are.

My Biryani seemed like a ripoff of Biryani Cart when they first came out in August 2010, but seem to have come into their own recently.  In addition to kati rolls and biryani, they now have two “lunch boxes” (one meat and one veggie), which have 3 different types of Indian food in each lunch box.  The meat one looked particularly interesting with chicken tikka masala, palak chicken (a spinach base) and dal over rice for $6.

The chicken, “lamb” or veggie kati rolls, which are $3.50 each or 2 for $6.  I wasn’t in the mood for gyro meat (‘lamb”), so I got one each of chicken and veggie.

I wasn’t sure what to have for lunch today, so I strolled up 6th Ave in the 40′s to see if there was anything new on the scene.  On 44th St just west of 6th Ave was My Biryani cart, which I’ve been to a couple of times before, and next to them was a new cart called Royal Grill that had a few people in line and looked tempting.

I almost went to the new Royal Grill cart, but then I saw a sign on My Biryani cart that simply said “Fish Rice $6.99″.  You don’t see fish on too may carts, and I was intrigued by the vagueness of the handwritten sign.  Nothing like livin’ on the edge every now and then.

Today’s Lunch is the “fish rice” from My Biryani cart ($7).

I was in the mood for Indian food, and have recently been to Biryani Cart a few times to check out some new items, so I headed 2 blocks south to the My Biryani cart on the SW corner of 6th Ave & 44th St for a change of pace.  I previously had a really nice lunch of chicken kati rolls at My Biryani, and now it was time to try their namesake dish, biryani.

Today’s Lunch is Bombay spicy biryani ($6) from the My Biryani cart.

There’s a new biryani cart in town, My Biryani, but they’re taking on a legend.  The Biryani Cart on 46th St & 6th Ave has won the People’s Choice Award at the past 2 Vendy Awards, and show no signs of slowing down.

My Biryani is only 2 blocks south of Biryani Cart, on the SW corner of 44th St & 6th Ave.  Today’s Lunch is 2 chicken kati rolls ($6 or $3.50 each) from My Biryani.  How would the upstart newcomer measure up?  Find out after the jump.
