The owner of Japadog, a fusion hot dog vendor on Vancouver that we wrote about right before the Olympics is planning to come to New York. According to Jeremiah’s Vanishing New York, the Japadog owner “is so encouraged by those incredibly long lineups in downtown Vancouver for his enormously popular Japanese sidewalk creations that he plans to set up shop in New York.” [JVNY]
How will New Yorkers take to the Terimayo, an all-beef hot dog smothered in Japanese soy mayo, thick teriyaki sauce, sauteed onions, and a generous sprinkling of nori (seaweed flakes)? Probably like fish to water. There’s also Misomayo, a turkey hot dog dressed with miso-mayo, sesame sauce, and kaiware (bitter daikon sprouts that have a wasabi-hot “kick”). But our favorite is the Orishi, a bratwurst frank loaded with special soy sauce, green onions, and grated daikon. Can’t wait for Japadog to hit our shores!
