From KXAN Austin – A Georgetown man is now in jail charged with stealing a popular street food trailer from East Austin over Christmas. Williamson County detectives said 41-year-old Bobby Schnieder confessed to taking the Lucky J’s Chicken and Waffles trailer from its parking spot at 6th and Waller streets. Schneider lives on County Road 253 in west Georgetown. Investigators found the trailer in his backyard Monday after someone tipped them off it was there. The trailer with its distinctive red-and-black checkerboard design was returned to its owner in good shape.
Meanwhile the owner of another food trailer is still hoping to get some similar good news. The owner of “Hook-em up Tacos” noticed his food trailer was missing in northwest Austin early Wednesday morning when he showed up for work. Barry Boyett has had the family-owned breakfast taco business for four years. Despite the busy traffic on FM 2222, and even a security camera sign posted, thieves were able to wheel the business away.
“I wish they would return the trailer, you know – doubt that will ever happen. I pray for them. Kind of sad that someone would do that,” said Boyett.
The “Hook-em up Tacos” stand has some eye-catching features. Boyett said, “It has ‘Hook-em up Tacos’ on it. It has the big logo right on the side. A big white trailer. It’s very noticeable.” For now, Boyett has some friends that will help keep his business afloat.
