When people talk about the World’s Best Sandwich truck on 20th St between Broadway and Park Ave, they often mention the chicken salad sandwich. Last time I went there, the intention was to try the chicken salad sandwich, but I was seduced by an Italian Sub at the last minute.
That almost happened again today. The Daily Special was a Spanish Sub (chicken cutlet, mozzarella, avocado, jalapeno, oil & vinegar) which looked really good.
But I snapped out of it. Today’s Lunch is chicken salad on a roll ($4) from the World’s Best Sandwich truck.
Upon opening the bag, I was a little surprised at the size of the sandwich. The Italian Sub was stocked with meat, but this was a normal-sized sandwich. Guess that’s how they can charge only $4 for it. This is still a good price for a chicken salad sandwich, which is usually $5-$6 at a deli.
The chicken salad itself was pretty good – mostly shredded white-meat chicken with a little mayo. Not much else, and not a lot of mayo. If you want to taste mostly chicken, not mayo, this is the sandwich for you. You can also add lettuce and tomato for no extra charge. And the roll was fine – soft and fresh.
Today’s Lunch gets a 7.5 out of 10. It’s a good sandwich, but not a world-beater. It is a good value at $4, and a small bag of chips was only 50 cents, so my sandwich and chips totaled $4.50. Pretty sweet. That’s enough to recommend the World’s Best Sandwich truck right there. (But next time, I’ll probably go for the Spanish Sub.)
