NYSF FIRST LOOK: CAMARENA TEQUILA TACO TRUCK

1860

Last night was the Launch Party for the Camarena Tequila Taco Truck that we told you about last week.  They will be around NYC until the end of June at different events.  For example, tonight they will be at 3rd Ward in Brooklyn for a Members Event, and they will be at the Brewers PicNyc on Governors Island this weekend.

The Launch Party was at the Classic Car Club on Hudson St, so there were some pretty awesome cars parked outside, such as the Lamborghini Gallardo (below).

There were tequila drinks aplenty, tequila-infused tacos and even tequila-infused desserts. Who knew you could cook so many good things with tequila?

While it was crowded, the food line seemed to really crawl.  When you walked in, they gave you 2 tickets for 2 free tacos.  However, it took about 45 minutes to get my tacos – and I got there early!  Everyone I spoke to was very apologetic, and promised the kinks would be worked out for future events.

No worries – I’ve seen it happen before with new trucks, and they usually work out the kinks fairly quickly.

When I got to the front of the line, I asked for whatever was available.  There were 5 different tacos, and I actually ended up with two of my top choices – tacos al pastor and Camarena chicken.  I wanted to try the BBQ beef too, but two of my top three choices was a pretty good batting average.

I started with the Camarena chicken, which had shredded chicken and cheese inside, and was topped with guacamole and radishes.  They started with a soft taco, but fried it so it was as crispy.  I didn’t taste much cheese, but the chicken was very tasty, as was the guacamole.

I didn’t taste much in the way of tequila on the chicken taco, but there was certainly some tequila infusion going on in the al pastor taco.

The shredded pork was very tender and tasty, and the pineapple salsa had a definite tequila flavor.  It wasn’t overpowering at all – more like an accent – but it was there, and added a little something extra to the taco.

As with most of the free food truck giveaways, the food is not intended to be a meal, but rather to give you a taste of what they are offering.  I didn’t walk out full, but I did walk out happy!

Unfortunately, I had a personal thing I had to attend to last night, so I didn’t get to try the tequila-infused desserts, but they looked delicious.  Maybe I’ll get another chance over the next month.

As we said, the Camarena Tequila Taco Truck will be at various events in the NYC area through the end of June.  We will keep you up on their whereabouts, but you can follow them on twitter here or check their facebook page here for their schedule.

It’s definitely worth tracking them down.

And if I had a Porsche Carrera, it wouldn’t be this color!
