Ever had Black Sesame Ice Cream? Well, spring is most definitely here, and it’s the perfect time to try it out. In the country, things are turning green, and in the city, things are turning green too, with the Itizy Ice Cream truck back on the street. (It’s more like turquoise, but let’s not quibble.)
Spring is the time for rebirth, and that includes a number of new menu items from Itizy. In addition to new ice cream and sorbet flavors, they now have a small waffle iron for making waffle cones on the spot. Below Ann shows off the waffle iron with her best Vanna White impersonation. I’d like to buy an “I” please, and a Black Sesame Ice Cream please.
We had to go back to the office and didn’t want to make a mess, so we just got a cup. We look forward to trying a fresh waffle cone when they are in Tribeca one weekend or evening.
Ice cream is one of our favorite things in the world, and we’re big fans of sesame too, so getting this flavor was a no-brainer.
The black sesame ice cream was very interesting. It certainly wasn’t sweet. A good description might be umami, the 5th taste that goes along with sweet, sour, bitter and salty.
When we see tiny black pieces in ice cream, we expect it to be pulverized Oreos, but the crushed black sesame seeds were not crunchy or sweet. They were a little grainy, and of course had the sesame taste we so enjoy.
