Alberto has been trying out some new dishes at the Eggs Travaganza cart on the NE corner of 52nd St & Park Ave. The food at Eggs Travaganza is not fancy, but it is good, solid Mexican fare with quality ingredients.
Today’s Lunch are sopes – one steak and one chicken ($5 total) – from the Eggs Travaganza cart.
The Eggs Travaganza cart started out only serving breakfast, but expanded into lunches last year.
If you’re not familiar with sopes, there are 2 grilled corn tortillas onto which a bed of lettuce is placed. The meat is placed on top of the lettuce, some cojita cheese is crumbled on, and a little green salsa verde is added at the end for color and heat,
The meat, especially the steak, was nicely grilled, with some light charring around the edges, but it was still tender. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, there’s nothing like simple, grilled steak cooked fresh!
The cojita cheese added a bit of saltiness to lunch, but the meat and lettuce easily absorbed it.
The hot sauce added a little bit of underlying spiciness, but it was more of an accent than in your face.
Today’s Lunch was very enjoyable. As I said, this isn’t the fanciest lunch you can get on the street, but it is fresh and tasty, with decent ingredients used in the dish. And even better, it cost only $5.
