When summer comes around, many people start looking forward to the chance of entertaining in their own homes. For those that have a home with a garden or conservatory, being able to invite friends and family round for a summer soiree can be fun and exciting. Of course, you have to put some effort into planning and organizing your event, but it is well worth it when you are having fun in your own home while surrounded by your loved ones.

Food is always a big consideration for this type of event, as it can be difficult to determine what people will want to eat when the weather is warm. You can’t go wrong with a finger buffer made up of cold foods, as there is no warming up to be done, no burnt fingers, and people can come along and eat whenever they like without you worrying that their hot food will have gone cold. The other thing you need to think about is beverages for your event, and given that it’s summer and the sunshine is out, what’s better than a refreshing cocktail?

With a little practice and effort, you can really impress your guests when the time comes by serving up a wide variety of sumptuous chilled cocktails to refresh and delight them. You can even make a selection of delicious virgin cocktails without alcohol for those that do not want to drink or who are driving.

Obviously, a good cocktail shaker is essential as is an ice crushing machine so that you can properly chill your drinks. In addition, you should invest in come proper cocktail glasses – you can even get high quality plastic ones if you don’t want to risk smashed glasses and glass all over the floor. Purchase some cocktail accessories too such as mini-umbrellas and cocktail sticks so that you can more easily garnish the cocktails you make.

Then comes the difficult part – learning how to make the cocktails! Most people cannot afford to purchase loads of different spirits and mixers so the best thing to do is work out which cocktails you want to make for your event. You can do some research into different cocktails online or you can even purchase a cocktail recipe book or find an app on your smartphone. This will enable you to determine the difficulty levels involved as well as the ingredients required. Once you have determined which ones to make, you can go out and buy the necessary ingredients.

In the run up to the event, make sure you follow your recipes and get some practice in – get others to sample the cocktails and offer feedback so you can improve in time for your event.
