Street Eats: Sliders From Mighty Balls

November 30th, 2012

We were by Union Square last week and had heard there were some pretty good food vendors at the Holiday Market. Although the holiday market stands are not exactly “food trucks”, they certainly qualify as “street food”. Artisanal market stands have become so popular, the Vendy Awards even started a Best Market Vendor category this year.

After perusing the options, we decided to stop at Mighty Balls, who make gourmet meatballs. What got us was their slogan “Not Yo’ Mama’s Balls”. Pretty amusing.

There are several choices in meats – beef, pork, turkey and veggie, and a number of sauces and cheeses. You can see the full menu here.

In order to sample a couple of different balls, we decided to get 2 sliders for $3.50 each.

TODAY’S LUNCH: MIGHTY BALLS AT THE UNION SQUARE HOLIDAY MARKET

December 8th, 2011

I was by Union Square today, and wanted to check out what was available for lunch at the holiday market.  There were several desserts such as Wafels & Dinges and Stuffed Artisan Cannolis, but only two choices for lunch that I saw – a crepe stand and Mighty Balls.

Mighty Balls doesn’t have a food truck or store, but they did have a stand at various festivals in the New York area over the past few months, similar to the stand currently at Union Square.

How it works is you can get a one ball slider for $3.50, three balls without bread for $7.50, or a three ball hero for $8.50.  Cheese is $1 extra.  You can see the full menu here.

The meatball, sauce and cheese choices are pretty interesting.  As the sign says, these are “not yo mama’s balls”.
