TODAY’S LUNCH: SPECIAL MEXICAN WRAP FROM EGGS TRAVAGANZA

The Eggs Travaganza cart has been serving breakfast for quite some time on the NE corner of 52nd St & Park Ave.  I don’t usually eat breakfast, so they were not on my radar – but they started serving lunch about a month ago, and boy am I glad they did.  Not only is their food good, but they do their own posters, too.

Having street meat every day gets a little daunting, but it’s the price I pay for letting you know where to find the best New York Street Food.

Eggs Travaganza gave me a little break from street meat. Today’s Lunch is the Special Mexican Wrap, which could just as well be called a Mexican Brunch Wrap to give you a better idea of what’s inside.

I enjoy eggs for lunch or dinner every once in a while, and this was no exception.  The Special Mexican Wrap is 2 fried eggs, chorizo, home fried potatoes, onion, pepper and cheese.  Arturo asked if I wanted hot sauce too.  Hell yes!

When I opened up the container, it smelled like a wonderful brunch – and it looked just as good, with a little American cheese oozing out of the wrap.  The eggs and potatoes were delicious, there was a lot of chorizo, and the hot sauce took it to another level.  This was a great lunch if you’re in the mood for eggs and potatoes.  The whole wheat wrap made it easy to eat, too.

Being in a Mexican food mood, I even stopped by the churro lady for dessert.  She is usually downstairs in the Lexington Ave-53rd St subway station and gives you 2 churros for $1.  They were a little bit greasy, but soft and sugary, with the crunchy outside around soft dough in the middle.  Yum!

Today’s Lunch was a 9 out of 10.  There was nothing wrong with it, but I can’t go higher than a 9 because it’s pretty basic stuff, although it’s done well.  To get higher than a 9, it has to be more complex.  Still, this was a very respectable and tasty lunch.

I can’t tell you how much the Special Mexican Wrap costs because I got caught up talking to Arturo and accidentally walked away without paying him.  I promise to go back tomorrow to pay him for Today’s Lunch.  Based on the rest of the menu, I would guess it’s in the $5 range.

The Eggs Travaganza cart has a bunch of other offering for lunch, including tacos ($2 each), burritos ($5) and more American fare like tuna fish and grilled cheese sandwiches.  You should give them a try.
