Had your Pulled Pork Salad today? Well, it seems like a lot of places are moving to a mix & match menu, where you choose your protein, toppings, sauce and method of delivery.

There are positives and negatives to doing it this way for the vendor, but for the customer, we can only see positives. What can be better than choosing exactly what you want in your dish?

If you’re one of those people who can’t decide when given a lot of choices, there is still the preset menu, which puts together their suggested ingredients.

For the vendor, customizing each dish slows things down a little, but giving your customer exactly what they want is the best customer service you can offer.

Mexicue’s new mix & match menu has some now items, so click through to see what they are, and to hear about the lunch they made up just for us.

Similar to other food trucks , first you choose the method of delivery and the protein.

Then you choose the toppings and the sauces.

We got a Pulled Pork Salad with jalapeños, pickled onions, cotija cheese, and crunchy tortilla strips, which cost $9.25

Mexicue used to only have a few sauces to choose from, but now there are seven! We selected mole and creamy chipotle.

The only suggestion we would make with the new menu is to put a heat index on the sauces, like 1-4 chili peppers. We had no idea how mild or spicy each sauce was before ordering.

Opening up the container, we started with the toppings. There was a  nice crunch from the tortilla strips, some heat from the jalapeños, a little vinegariness from the pickled onions, and a little more heat and creaminess from the sauces.

Once we got under the toppings, there was plenty of pulled pork underneath. You can’t really see it with the toppings, but believe us, it was there.

Having all of this on top of shredded lettuce instead of rice was a nice option. Not only is it healthier, but the lettuce was cool and crisp, which added yet another dimension to the meal.

The plus of getting a Pulled Pork Salad bowl – we didn’t end up stuffed by the end of lunch.

The negative of getting a salad bowl – we didn’t end up stuffed by the end of lunch.

Jeez, you just can’t please some people!

Mexicue makes the rounds of various neighborhoods, so find them on twitter here or on our Mobile Munchies twitter feed.

They also have 2 storefronts, one near Penn Station and one on the Lower East Side, and they serve beer at the stores. That would have hit the spot perfectly with this lunch.
