Anyone here who doesn’t like Grilled Cheese? Well, the other day when we didn’t find the Trini-Paki Boys cart on West 43rd St, we headed over to the NYPL for Food Trucks On Fifth.
It turned out that Milk Truck was there, and they had a nice looking special, the Blue Ribbon Sandwich, which cost $8.
Opening up the package, we immediately smelled the blue Grilled Cheese and gruyere, two fairly strong cheeses. But this wasn’t just an odoriferous grilled cheese sandwich, and we say that admiringly.
In addition to blue Grilled Cheese and Wisconsin gruyere, the sandwich had NY State cheddar cheese smoothing things out. That’s a lot of cheese flavor between two slices of bread.
Speaking of bread, that was really good too. It was rosemary pullman bread from Blue Ribbon Bakery, which grilled up nicely. The crust was crunchy, and the rest of the bread was toasty, but not too hard.
Besides three cheeses, there were caramelized onions and sauteed mushrooms in the middle of the sandwich too. The mushrooms were mild and buttery, but the onions weren’t that noticeable.
Overall, this was a yummy grilled cheese sandwich – melty, warm and toasty – perfect for a cool winter day. It wins the Blue Ribbon in our book.
