Walking up 6th Ave near Bed, Bath & Beyond, we’ve seen the Naranjo Taco Truck a few times parked on either 18th or 19th St, just west of 6th Ave.

Normally, one of our rules is if a dish is included in the vendor’s name, order that dish first. But it’s been pretty damn cold out, so we decided to get something heartier, beef stew. It was the daily special, and cost $6.

The beef stew had chunks of  beef, carrots, potatoes, and we asked for some hot sauce.

You never know what you’re going to find when it comes to beef in a stew. This beef was decent – fairly tender and not fatty at all.

The veggies were slow-cooked carrots and potatoes, but they were still pretty firm, and the hot sauce was a good idea. It built up slowly, and didn’t get out of control.

In addition to the stew, there were rice & beans, which were a mixed bag. The yellow rice was moist and good, but the beans were not among our favorite side dishes.

The lettuce and tomato salad was standard, but it also came with a nice slice of avocado, reminding us of their Mexican heritage.

The Naranjo Taco Truck doesn’t seem to have a website or twitter account, but we’ve seen them a few times over the past few months on 6th Ave and either 18th or 19th St. You can see part of their specials menu here.

Next time, we’re gonna follow our rule and try the tacos.
