We received some sad news last night. Bistro Truck is not coming back to the NYC streets this spring.

According to Yassir Raouli, chef and owner, permit issues and the chaotic status of the NYC food truck industry were two of the prime reasons behind his decision.

Of course, it doesn’t leave much time for a food truck when you have a restaurant to run.

We have many fond memories of Bistro Truck, and one of the highlights has to be their 1st Birthday Party. On the same day they were celebrating 1 year on the street, Yassir found out that Bistro Truck was named as a 2010 Vendy Award Finalist. Now that was a day for celebration!

Even with the restaurant, Rustic L.E.S. keeping him very busy, Yassir still has plans for the future.

Last night Yassir told us he almost didn’t bring Bistro Truck out last year. Once he did, it was his worst year yet for tickets and police hassles.

One idea he is actively exploring is a possible brick & mortar “Bistro Truck concept”.  They are presently scouting an ideal location to make it a reality, where they can offer quality Moroccan –Mediterranean style street food, as they did on the truck.

For now their focus is on expanding the offerings at Rustic L.E.S, at 124 Ridge Street in the Lower East Side. If you haven’t been there yet, it’s definitely worth a visit. The rooster is always welcoming!

Bistro Truck has been copied but never equaled.

We will miss you at lunch, but will be by Rustic L.E.S. again for dinner soon.
