For some reason, we’ve never been to Kwik Gourmet on 47th St just west of Park Ave. They are the little brother to Kwik Meal on 45th St & 6th Ave, who are 2-time Vendy Award Finalists, but every time we’re in the area, there are so many food trucks on 47th St that we pass Kwik Gourmet by.

Not yesterday. There were at least 8 food trucks in the immediate area, but we stopped at Kwik Gourmet and ordered grilled shrimp over rice. The menu said $9, but we were charged $9.50 when it arrived. Oh well, that’s 50 cents less into the tip jar.

They asked if we wanted white sauce and hot sauce, to which the answer was yes, but there was also a bottle of green sauce we spotted, and asked for some of that.

There were not a huge number of shrimp, but we ended up with 5 larger-than-medium sized shrimp. Not jumbo, but 2-3 bites each, and each was plump,  juicy and nicely grilled.

The shrimp had what seemed like a light curry rub on it. We wouldn’t call it curry shrimp, but there was some. The shrimp was also very spicy, which we believe came from the hot sauce.

Luckily, the white sauce is made from yogurt (as opposed to mayo), and it worked really well at cooling off the shrimp as a creamy dipping sauce.

Another thing Kwik Gourmet does well is the veggies. The veggie mix was very good with snap peas, corn, carrots, bell peppers, onions and mushrooms.

The basmati rice provided a solid base for the shrimp and veggies, with its thin grains cooked well by Kwik Gourmet.

Next time you’re on 47th St checking out the multitude of food trucks, take our advice and try Kwik Gourmet (if you haven’t already).

Not only is their shrimp and fish good, but they are one of the very few vendors who serve real lamb in their lamb over rice instead of that processed gyro crap. Their falafel is very good too.
