NYSF IN LA: BRATWURST FROM LET’S BE FRANK

As I mentioned in my post yesterday about the Border Grill, since they ran out of churro tots, I needed something else to get me through the afternoon until dinner.  Luckily, Let’s Be Frank was right next to the Border Grill truck.

After I ordered a bratwurst ($5.50), he asked if I wanted Devil’s Sauce, mustard and sauerkraut on it.  I wasn’t familiar with Devil Sauce, and he said it was kind of like chutney flavor.  I asked for everything except sauerkraut.  I like sauerkraut, but just wasn’t in the mood for it.

When I got back to the office and unwrapped the brat, it was quite long, and hung over both sides of the bun.  The bun was nicely toasted, and there were lots of grilled onions on it.

As I mentioned yesterday, Let’s Be Frank make all their own sausages and hot dogs, with the meat coming from farmers co-ops. It doesn’t have nitrates, nitrites, hormones, or any of those nasty things that are in processed hot dogs.

The brat was delicious, and the Devil’s Sauce was an interesting topping.  It played off the mustard and grilled onions, as well as the brat.  With a name like Devil’s Sauce, I expected it to be killer spicy, but it was more of a creeping heat as I made my way down the brat.

I guess it turned out ok with the Border Grill running out of churro tots.  Otherwise, I wouldn’t have had a chance to try Let’s Be Frank.
