Home Street Food MONDAY MORNING TIDBITS

MONDAY MORNING TIDBITS

  • Anthony Bourdain was filming in Austin last week for an upcoming show on the great street food scene there (which we wrote about right before SXSW last month).  He supposedly went to Gourdough’s, East Side Kings and Odd Duck Farm to Trailer among others.  The episode is tentatively scheduled to air in June. [Austin Is Delicious]
  • The next city to amend it’s laws to support street food vendors – Minneapolis.  Last week the City Council unanimously approved  a proposal to allow a set number of commercial kitchen license-holding vendors to operate food carts in specific, permanent areas downtown.  The proposal is scheduled to begin May 1st and now only awaits the final approval of Mayor R.T. Rybak.  [Heavy Table].  If this keeps up, soon you’ll be able to eat good street food in any decent-sized US city.
  • Here’s how to drink for free in New York [NYT Frugal Traveler].  This article was pretty well covered, but it’s good enough to reprint to highlight that you don’t have to spend $10 a drink in New York if you know where to go.
