After a long and complicated application process, the NY Times reported today that the NYC Parks Dept has selected 6 new vendors to serve in certain NYC parks.

Leading the pack are two NYSF favorites, Kelvin Natural Slush and Coolhaus.

Kelvin will actually be in my neighborhood (yay!), at the Little Red Square Park on Bleecker St & 6th Ave.  Coolhaus will have a prime spot by the front entrance of one of our other favorite NYC locations, the American Museum of Natural History on the Upper West Side.  We’ve had a family membership at the AMNH for close to 20 years.

Other vendors selected were Purple Yam, a Filipino and Korean fusion restaurant in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn, who will have two sites near Columbia University – one at 114th St and Bdwy for savories and one at 113th St and Bdwy for desserts and sweets.

By the main entrance to Columbia, at West 116th St and Bdwy, Borough Fare will offer soups and sandwiches on a sidewalk under parks jurisdiction.

At the Bleecker St Playground (West 11th St) Je & Jo will be presenting handmade organic ice cream blended with cookie dough.

Food Freaks will be selling grilled-cheese sandwiches in Fort Greene Park in Brooklyn.

Some of the vendors may not be up and running until next year, but some may get through the city’s cumbersome regulatory process by mid-summer. [NY Times]

If you want to check out many of the new NYC Parks vendors, we told you yesterday about a Taste Of The Parks Showcase being held tomorrow at the Central Park Arsenal near 64th St & 5th Ave.  From what we understand, there will be plenty of samples.
