Our Visit to Filthy Flats in Brooklyn: Fast, Fun, and Flavorful

Looking for a quick bite when in downtown Brooklyn? Then head over to 32 Court Street for a fun and flavorful experience at Filthy Flats!

Filthy Flats is the making of Randy Narod and Joseph Anzalone. You may know Narod and Anzalone from their nine (yes nine!) Long Island Bagel Cafe locations. The LIBC bagel, born from a family recipe, has now made its way to Brooklyn–but, with a new creative flair. Filthy Flats flattens each hand-rolled and boiled bagel before baking. The flat bagels are baked fresh daily at their bagel factory in Baldwin, New York and then shipped to Brooklyn.

Meg joined me on this outing, and we certainly had a tough time deciding what to try (I know, all the more reason to go back, again and again and …)

Filthy Flats open-faced sandwich menu includes Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Dessert Flats. We opted for lunch items but as true New Yorkers, we included a Bacon, Egg, and Cheese which was a generous portion of egg, topped with bacon rich with a deep smokiness, and plenty of cheese.

The Korean BBQ Flat

The Korean BBQ flat did not skimp on the juicy braised short ribs (is your mouth watering already?) with cheddar jack cheese, crispy French onions, and drizzled with sauce that held a sweetness with a kick of heat.

The Pizza

Next up was the pizza. What could be better than an adorable NYC Pizza? Can pizza be adorable? Well, this one was. We popped open the box to find a perfect portion of a crisp yet doughy bagel (see the featured picture at the top!), signature ingredients paired with Mike’s Hot Honey –a nostalgic taste with a modern twist.

The Buffalo Chicken

The Buffalo Chicken was the quintessential treat!  Tender chicken balanced with heat and a cool creaminess. While eating, all I could think was “Perfect party food!” –and Filthy Flats can make that a reality with their catering packages of 12 and 24 mini flats.

Tater Tots

In between our open-faced flats, we tried the Tater Tots. Well, let me rephrase that. I tried one solo tot and Meg tore through the rest. Do not let the two forks fool you. She loved the crispy, puffy, bites of potato, air-fried to perfection with a touch of salt.  The plain was a hit with Meg, but they are also available in a cheese sauce or with cheese and bacon.

My two favorites I saved for last.

The Cranberry Chicken

First, Cranberry Chicken. I love chicken salad and this recipe was so unique in that it included honey as an ingredient that paired well with the tartness of the cranberries, all lightly folded into fresh shredded chicken.

Avocado Feta

Second, Avocado Feta. The avocado is fantastic; silky and creamy. Soft crumbles of seasoned feta cheese sit atop and a drizzle of honey brings it all together. Oh, and a healthy garnish of micro greens. I ordered the plain flat but will be back to try the Gluten Free Cauliflower flat.

As if it couldn’t get any better, you can also order Filthy Flats right to your door with Grubhub, UberEats, and DoorDash.

Although it is a rarity for me, I did not have dessert (I was full of flats!) but I’m looking forward to it in the future. Desserts are served on flat rainbow bagel and include the Nutty Smore, Strawberry Cheesecake, and Cannoli. No decisions to be made there –I’m trying them all!
