We found out a few days ago that 2008 Vendy Cup Winner, Calexico Carne Asada, will be expanding into Philadelphia.

Philly.com reports that Calexico Carne will occupy the ground floor of a mixed-use project at 1600 South St.

That makes how many Calexico Carne outlets exactly?

We know Calexico Carne from their Vendy Award-winning carts in Soho and by Madison Square Park, which are still going strong.

After opening two restaurants in Brooklyn (Red Hook & Greenpoint), the aptly-named Vendley Brothers recently opened a third restaurant on the LES. They also have an outlet in the Barclays Center, if you plan on going there for any concerts or Nets games.

From Philly.com: In joining the South Street West restaurant scene, Calexico Carne will provide competition to the Baja Room at 15th and South. The article mentions a fall opening.

How did a New York Mexican eatery get to 16th and South? Chris Phillips, who also has the Philly region’s Elevation Burger franchises, is franchising Calexico growth with New York franchisee Anthony Fauci.

Not only do Calexico’s restaurants serve booze, but we guess it’s a lot better than freezing your butt off by Madison Square Park.
