UPCOMING NEW YORK STREET FOOD EVENTS

The end of summer means plenty of outdoor events where you can enjoy some great New York Street Food.  Here are details on a few you may be interested in:

First up is Snout ‘N Stout on Sat, Sept 4th, being held on North 3rd in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  This will be an open-air, North Carolina-style pig roast & sidewalk party with craft beer and music by DJ Cowboy Mark (of Kill Devil Hill).   All are welcome to hang out and drink beer, but only folks who buy advanced tix will get a plate of finger lickin food – featuring Whole Hog with three sauces (NC barbecue, Pineapple teriyaki, and Cuban mojo), Cole Slaw, Potato Salad, Caesar Salad or Fruit Salad.  Click here for more info and here for advance food tickets, which cost $15.  The early-bird $10 tickets are already out.

We already told you about Parked, the food truck extravaganza that drew 3,000 people to Bklyn Yard last year.  This year they are stretching their legs out on Governors Island on Sun, Sept 5th.  Admission is free – you just pay for whatever food you decide to eat.  The food trucks announced so far are Jamaican Dutchy, Rickshaw Dumplings, Green Pirate Juice Truck, Joyride Truck, Red Hook Lobster Pound, Ven Leeuwen Ice Cream Artisans, Hallo Berlin, The Cinnamon Snail, Hermelinda Mexicana and Kelvin Natural Slush Co. Parked runs from noon to 5pm, and with all events of this nature, we recommend getting there early.

Friday, Sept 10th is Fashion Night out, when all sorts of fashion and shopping events will be taking place in the city.  In conjunction with a bunch of these events, food trucks have been hired to bring some added cachet (really?) to the fashion world.  A full list has not been released, but we know that Kelvin Natural Slush Co will be parked outside Bergdorf Goodman (59th & 5th), Cupcake Stop, Street Sweets, Treats Truck and VLAIC will be having a Food Truck Face-Off by Lord & Taylor (39th & 5th), and Shipley & Halmos will be pedaling about town with a case of Guerilla Ice Cream to serve shoppers at a variety of of stops including Barney’s and Odin. All proceeds from this last item will be donated to the Street Vendor Project.

And speaking of the Street Vendor Project, don’t forget the big kahuna of street food events – the 2010 Vendy Awards.  General admissions tickets have out, but a limited number of $200, $500 and $1,000 individual sponsorships are still available.
