5 SPICE GLAZED PORK BELLY SANDWICH FROM NUM PANG

Today's lunch is 5 spice-glazed pork belly with pickled Asian pear.   This sandwich had Num Pang's usual shredded carrots, cucumber, cilantro and a spicy mayo.  Everything worked together beautifully. The spicy mayo was offset by the Asian pear and cucumber.  The pork belly was lean and tender.  The light colored ingredient at the bottom of the 2nd photo is the...

KATI ROLLS – DELICIOUS INDIAN STREET FOOD

Kati (or kathi) rolls have been getting a lot of attention lately.  For the uninitiated, here's how The Kati Roll Company describes their namesake dish: Kati rolls are made by wrapping warm paratha, an Indian flat bread, around a variety of meats, vegetables and cheese.  Each ingredient is marinated in a blend of Indian spices.   Diners may choose from...

WHAT IS BANANA SPLIT PEA SOUP, ALEX?

In the TV show Jeopardy, there's a category called Before & After, where one word connects two different phrases, such as "split" in the title of this post that connects "banana split" and "split pea soup". This schizophrenic Jeopardy category is the perfect analogy for Mister Soup, a Mister Softee truck spotted near the Metropolitan Museum of Art that is...

TODAY’S LUNCH: PORK SCHNITZEL FROM SCHNITZEL & THINGS TRUCK

We're starting a new feature called Today's Lunch.  When we have something interesting for lunch, it will be photographed, reviewed and posted.  While it will generally be New York Street Food, on occasion it may not be.  As long as it's interesting, it will be posted.  We did a few tweets of these last year, but are now making...

BAOGUETTE NOW OPEN IN THE FINANCIAL DISTRICT

The long-awaited Financial District outpost of Baoguette is now open at 9 Maiden Lane, between Broadway and Nassau Street.  For those of you familiar with the area, it's in the former Klatch coffee space. Although Baoguette is a storefront rather than a food truck or street cart, it is included in New York Street Food under Honorary Street Food, which...

STREET FOOD SOMMELIER

I found an interesting episode of Vendr.TV from last summer that featured Daniel Delaney with Gary Vaynerchuk of Wine Library TV. The duo paired wines with different types of street food, and were joined by Zach Brooks of Midtown Lunch at their first stop, the Kwik Meal cart.  Gary threw a fast ball, pairing the platter with a 2008 Premiado...

The food trend prognosticators keep prognosticating, because that's what they do (even if it's quite obvious to the rest of us). According to Denver-based trade publication Eat In Eat Out, street food will be big in 2010.  The publication, a division of the American Forecaster, looks at business and consumer trends in the food, beverage and dining industries.  Street food...

A VIDEO TOUR OF SIX L.A. FOOD TRUCKS

A lot of people have been talking about the food trucks of L.A.  Terry Wunder of The Wunder Blog made a video of 6 friends visiting 6 LA Food Trucks.  Watch as they talk with the proprietors and, of course, eat. Featured in the video are a mix of the "old guard" and newbies in the mobile food world: Barbie's...
