When we first moved into the West Village over 20 years ago, the Hudson River waterfront was a disaster. Used condoms, needles and transvestive hookers were all over the place. Ah, the good old days!
In 1998, the NYS Legislature passed the Hudson River Park Act, Now, it’s one of the best examples of how to reclaim a waterfront. Excellent job NYS & NYC. See, government can do some good at times.
There are Little League baseball and soccer fields, dog runs, tennis courts, a water taxi, plenty of grass and walkways, and even a trapeze school. We’ve even gotten back the Macy’s 4th of July fireworks the past few years.
About the only thing missing is good food. Attention mobile food vendors – here’s your chance!
The Hudson River Park Trust has put out a Request for Proposals (RFP). They are looking for vendors for dedicated spaces for pushcarts, processing carts, and food trucks.
There will be seven locations offered throughout the park in Battery Park City, Tribeca, Soho, the West Village, and Clinton.
The term is for two years with options for three one-year extensions. Rent is a fixed monthly amount against a percentage of the gross.
If you’re interested, jump on this right away. Responses are due by March 15th, and they are looking for vendors to commence operations no later than May 1st.
