Street Eats: Curried Goat from Trini-Paki Boys

Earlier this month, we were by West 43rd St & 6th Ave a couple of times, and both times, the venerable Trini-Paki Boys Cart was not at it’s usual spot. Since there was a new Thai cart, we thought (after 2 separate visits) that Trini-Paki Boys was no longer around.

NYSF reader Brendan saw our article and contacted us to say he recently saw Trini-Paki Boys back on 43rd St, so we stopped by yesterday for lunch.

There’s always a line at this cart, for good reason. Yesterday it was only about 8 people, but during the summer, it can be much longer.

We make a point to ask about daily specials, and one was curried goat. This is a Caribbean specialty that we haven’t had much, so we ordered a medium size for $7. They have larger and smaller sizes, but the medium is enough for us, and we have a big appetite.

Is Trini-Paki Boys Gone, Replaced By Bankkok Thai Street Food?

It’s been a while since we’ve been to the Trini-Paki Boys cart and headed over to 43rd St just east of 6th Ave to see what specials they had today.

Oh no, Trini-Paki Boys was gone, and they weren’t across the street either. Anybody seen them around lately?

We know the owner was having health problems, but we hoped they were in the past. If Trini-Paki Boys are gone for good, they will be missed. Not too many places to get doubles on the street. Please let us know if you see or hear anything.

In it’s place was Bankkok Thai Street Food, which looks like another outlet in Tuk Tuk Boy’s expanding empire. It has basically the same menu as Tuk Tuk Boy and Muay Thai, and we recently had this for lunch, so we headed elsewhere. In addition to the menu below, they had a ginger chicken special for $7.

Don’t worry, we’ll stop by soon to check out the new Bankkok cart. Has anyone tried it yet?

STREET EATS: CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA & A DOUBLE FROM TRINI-PAKI BOYS

April 24th, 2012

One of the better and more unique vendors in midtown is the Trini-Paki Boys cart on the south side of 43rd St just east of 6th Ave.  They serve a good chicken over rice dish, but their daily specials are what you should ask about before ordering.

There could be jerk chicken, goat curry, chicken tikka masala, beef stew, oxtail stew, shark bake (not actually shark), or any number of other Caribbean and Pakistani dishes. You see the food is a combination of cuisines, just as the married owners are – one is Trinidadian and one is Pakistani.

Several of these specials were available when I recently visited, and I went for a small portion of chicken tikka masala for $6 and a Trinidadian double for $2.
