Last week we stopped by Toast Monster for a mac & cheese sandwich for lunch, but looking at their menu, we instantly decided to go back for brunch very soon. That day came sooner than even we expected.

How can you pass up a peanut butter & jelly sandwich on French toast?  We can’t, especially when it costs only $3!

If you’re like me, you probably looked at the title of this post and said “What? Why would you put macaroni & cheese on toast and grill it?”

The answer is because we were expecting to have sloppy joe on the sandwich too. Unfortunately, they were sold out of the sloppy joe add-on a little after 1pm, so we ended up with just mac & cheese in the sandwich. It cost $6 by itself and $8 with sloppy joe.

It was still pretty darn good. Click through for the down low on a toasted mac & cheese sandwich from Toast Monster.

Street Eats: Chicken Parmigiana Sandwich From Toast Monster

December 5th, 2012

There’s a new kid on the New York street food scene – Toast Monster. We had a First Look recently, and decided to go back for an encore.

On Fridays the cart is on 50th St between 6th & 7th Ave for lunch. We don’t expect that to change, because arriving at the cart around 1pm, they only had one savory type of sandwich left on the menu. All the others were sold out.

The concept behind Toast Monster is sandwiches on toast, and they have both savory and sweet. The savory sandwiches come on thick slabs of white or wheat bread, which are toasted over a flame grill. The sweet sandwiches are served on French toast!

There were a few interesting choices on the menu, but we came too late for a choice. It was either chicken parmigiana or dessert for lunch. We went for the chicken parmigiana, which costs $7. Not that you can see it inside the uncut sandwich.

NYSF First Look: Toast Monster

November 26th, 2012

After returning from London, we headed over to our regular stomping grounds (feeding grounds?) by Rockefeller Center to get some lunch. On 50th St just west of 6th Ave was a new food cart called Toast Monster.

The concept is sandwiches on toast, and they have both savory and sweet. The savory sandwiches come on either white or wheat bread. The sweet sandwiches are served on French toast!

It was lunch time, so we got steak and potatoes, which cost $7. What’s steak & potatoes without onions & gravy? For $1 more, you get onions, gravy & cheese.

The full Toast Monster menu is here.
