TACOS FROM THE TACO TRUCK AT THE HOBOKEN ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE

March 7th, 2011

On Saturday (3/5) they held the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Hoboken, and The Taco Truck was on the street for the occasion.  I don’t know why they celebrate the holiday on March 5th in Hoboken and March 17th in Manhattan, but it was as good an excuse as any to Eat More Tacos!

revelers

It was a nice, sunny 50 degree day, so I hopped on the PATH train at Christopher St and took it one stop to Hoboken.  The place was in full revelry, and I even ran across a smoking leprechaun.

I had one meal previously from The Taco Truck last year, and it was excellent.  Since then, The Taco Truck has opened a storefront location at 62 Newark St in Hoboken, but the truck has been off the street for the winter.  With the weather getting warmer, Emma told me they expect the truck to be back on the street regularly this week or next.

Today they had a special St. Patrick’s Day menu, which was similar to their regular menu, with cilantro crema and guacamole providing the green.

I ordered a cochinita pibil taco ($5.50 for two) and a pescado taco ($5.50) and sat down on a sunny stoop to enjoy them.

JERSEY CITY FOOD TRUCKS FIGHTING FOR THEIR LIVES

August 3rd, 2010

JC Food trucks

Just across the Hudson River in Jersey City, some of our street vendor friends are being threatened with extinction.  As mentioned in our Mobile Munchies post on July 27th, City Councilman Steve Fulop is trying to get rid of the food trucks in Jersey City including The Krave, The Taco Truck, LA Spice Truck and everyone else.

In response, the vendors have pulled together and started a Save The Jersey City Food Trucks page on Facebook.  Even if you don’t live in NJ, please support them by visiting their page for information, adding them as a friend, and forwarding the details to your friends.

Chris from The Taco Truck told us there will be a rally next week at City Hall in JC with at least 10 food trucks.  We will give you further information on the rally as it becomes available.

LATEST FOOD TRUCK CROSSOVER: THE TACO TRUCK STORE

July 6th, 2010

dinner plate

The latest food truck to open a brick-and-mortar establishment is one of our favorites, The Taco Truck.  Even though the truck is in New Jersey, we have taken the PATH train to Hoboken to enjoy their tacos.

The store is only 2 blocks from the PATH station in Hoboken, and it’s no different than going to Brooklyn or Queens from Manhattan. Believe us -their food is worth it!

The Taco Truck store is at 62 Newark St in Hoboken, and the Grand Opening is this Friday July 9th.

NYSF REVIEW: THE TACO TRUCK

The Taco Truck

I needed to bring home dinner a few days ago, and The Taco Truck (TTT) was on Sinatra Drive between 1st & 2nd St in Hoboken, only 2 blocks from the Hoboken PATH station.  I’ve heard some really good things about TTT, and at this location, it was an easy ride from midtown to Hoboken, then back home to Greenwich Village with dinner.  Here’s the view from the truck in Hoboken:

Checking out their menu, the Taquiza looked perfect.  This was deconstructed tacos sold by the pound that serves 5 people – approximately 18 tacos.  You choose two taco styles and two salsas, and they give you plenty of tortillas, onions, cilantro, limes and sides of rice and beans.  It cost $59, and we happily made our own tacos.  There are also larger packages available, but we were serving 5, so this was just right.
