Street Eats: Chicken Biryani From Tariq’s #1 Halal Food

Over the summer we were introduced to Tariq’s #1 Halal Food Cart by an email from JR, one of our readers. He was excited about a new cart on the NW corner of 19th St & Park Ave South, and told us about his experiences in a Guest Post. A bunch of other readers commented  about how much they like both Tariq and his food too.

We enjoyed a nice sauteed fish dish on our first time there, and thought it was time to go back for another visit.

The chicken biryani sounded good, and it costs only $5.50. The thing about Tariq is he is proud of his food, and wants everyone to try everything. That’s why our chicken biryani had a few pieces of both chicken tikka and chicken tikka masala.

The other thing Tariq was proud of was a new green sauce he created. You can see it in the upper right corner of the photo below. We asked what was in it, and he said “3 or 4 different types of chilies and some herbs”.  Looking forward to trying the new green sauce.

We discovered Tariq’s #1 Halal Food Cart from New York Street Food reader JR who emailed us about this great new cart on the NW corner of 19th St & Park Ave. JR told us about his experiences in a Guest Post, and a bunch of other readers commented  about how much they like both Tariq and his food.

We had a chance to stop by Tariq’s #1 cart recently, and based on one of our other readers’ comments, decided to get the fish for $7. We really enjoy fish, but don’t get to eat it as often as we would like at home.

About 2 weeks ago, we received an email from JR telling us about a great new food cart on the NW corner of 19h St & Park Ave South. It looked like any other generic halal cart, but JR insisted it was much better than that, and the guy running it, Tariq, was a super-nice guy who took real pride in his food.

Last week JR wrote a Guest Post for us with a very nice review, and we figured that would be the end of it…but it wasn’t.

NYSF Guest Post: Tariq’s #1 Halal Food Cart by JR

We always like to hear about good street food from readers who love it as much as we do. If there is a street vendor you think goes above and beyond the usual street fare, let us know about it. We might even ask you to write a Guest Post, as we did with JR.

JR emailed us a few days ago about a cart that he really likes near his office that’s on the NW corner of Park Ave South & 19th St. It looks just like another generic cart from the outside, but the tip-off is the sign taped to the front of the cart with Daily Specials like shrimp biryani, chicken tikka masala and kati rolls. That means the cart is Indian cuisine as opposed to the usual halal carts. (Update: There is now a sign that says Tariq’s #1 Halal Food)

Without further ado, here is JR’s review of Tariq’s cart, along with some good-looking photos he took.
