Food Trucks Starting To Make Inroads Towards A “Green” Future

About 2 weeks ago, there was a big hubbub in the press with the unveiling of Neapolitan Express.  Mainstream media outlets were calling them the city’s “first green food truck”. A noble pursuit, but Neapolitan Express weren’t exactly the first.

The mainstream media doesn’t know food trucks like we do. Not to take anything away from Neapolitan Express, who are doing something very good, but we  have enjoyed food from 2 other “green” food trucks  in NYC over the past few years.

Street Eats: Chicavocado Dog from Snap!

We’ve been on a little bit of a vegetarian kick lately. After enjoying the Cinnamon Snail’s offerings last month at the 2012 Vendy Awards  (where they won the People’s Choice Award), we’ve been checking out vegetarian fare more often.

We’re not sure if more street vendors now have veggie options, or if we just didn’t notice them before. Either way, it’s probably healthier than eating meat every day for lunch (and usually dinner).

One of the more unusual vegetarian dishes around is the Chicavocado Dog from Snap!, which costs $5.

Street Eats: Chili Cheese Dog from Snap

I’ve been on a bit of a hot dog quest lately, and my latest conquest was a chili cheese dog from Snap. They are one of the newer food trucks in town, and are named after the ‘snap” a good grilled hot dog has when you bite into it.

Snap is best known for their Chicago Dog, where one of the owners is originally from. Since we already covered that one, the chili cheese dog for $5 was next on our list.
