Question of the Day: Can you eat lunch at a cheesesteak truck if you’re a vegetarian? Sounds like an oxymoron, but we gave it a try. No, we’re not going vegetarian, just expanding our palate.

Shorty’s truck was parked nearby, and having already tried their beef, chicken and pork cheesesteaks, we were curious about the Veggie Combo.

We got some news hot off the press late yesterday from Evan Stein, owner of Shorty’s, Shorty’s On Wheels and Lil’ Shorty’s.

Shorty’s just signed a lease for a new bar/restaurant located at 62 Pearl St in the Financial District, a few steps from Broad St.

This isn’t a tiny takeout and delivery window like Lil’ Shorty’s. It’s a 2,000 sq ft emporium, along the lines of the the Shorty’s on Madison Ave. Like the other 2 Shorty’s, expect lots of food, drink and sports.

Evan told us they will be working hard to open by Christmas. Cheesesteaks for Christmas, we like the sound of that.

Street Eats: Buffalo Chicken Hero from Shorty’s On Wheels

We’re slowly working our way through the menu of Shorty’s On Wheels. We’ve already had a roast pork sandwich and a classic Philly cheesesteak, which is probably their most famous dish.

The next choice on the menu was easy – Buffalo Chicken Steak for $10.  We’re big fans of buffalo chicken, from the hot sauce to the bleu cheese.  Celery we can take or leave, but it’s not on this sandwich, so that didn’t matter.

Street Eats: Cheesesteak from Shorty’s On Wheels

A while back we told you about Shorty’s, a Philly-centric sports bar with two locations here in NYC that was opening a food truck called Shorty’s On Wheels.  During our First Look, we had a delicious Italian roast pork special sandwich.  For our second visit, we had to try a classic Philly cheesesteak.

The truck has been on and off the street for the past couple of weeks getting their act together, but we caught up with them last week on 47th St & Park Ave.  A classic Philly cheesesteak was $9 and we added mushrooms for $.75.

Coolhaus & Shorty’s: A Match Made In Heaven

June 1st, 2012

We stopped by Shorty’s On Wheels yesterday and checked in with the owner, Evan Stein. Wouldn’t you know it, he actually had hot-off-the-press news to deliver.

Earlier in the day, Shorty’s and Coolhaus had just finalized a relationship. Both Shorty’s locations and Shorty’s On Wheels will be selling Coolhaus ice cream sandwiches for dessert.

Now after you have one of these:

You can have one of these.

Now that’s a match made in heaven!

Speaking of matches made in heaven and delivering good news, Evan’s wife is due to give birth to their first child any second now.  Our best wishes to the mom and pop to be.
