New York Street Food

Last night we saw the saddest tweet in a while. Schnitzel & Things tweeted: “sadly we are indeed closing the store:( we will provide a more detailed explanation in a blog post that we’ll put up later.”

While we haven’t seen the blog post yet, they recently had problems with pipes bursting at the store, which caused a lot of damage. That may have something to do with it. For the record, the S&T store opened just under 2 years ago.

Oleg told us the S&T truck will still be on the street. No changes there. Whew!

Schnitzel & Things was the very first food truck we ever tried, back in the Summer of 2009. If they sucked, we might not have created New York Street Food. Luckily, we were blown away, decided to seek out other food trucks, and 3 years later, here we are.

We will miss the S&T store, which we stopped into a few times when in the area. Word is they might reopen in a different location. We will let you know when we hear something.

Do you know which was the first food truck we ever went to?  That would be Schnitzel & Things, way back in the summer of 2009.

Schnitzel & Things won the Vendy Award in 2009 for Rookie of the Year, and 3 years later, they are as good as ever.  Oleg and company even opened a storefront on 3rd Ave btw 45-46 St last spring.

I had to speak with a couple of the food truck owners, so I headed over to the Lot on 30th St yesterday where they were parked.  And since I was already there, how could I not get some schnitz?

I just love the chicken schnitzel platter ($10) from Schnitzel  Things.

Yes, I’m crazy. It’s one of the hottest days of the year and I get a deep-fried schnitzel sandwich for lunch.

It’s been a while since I went to Schnitzel & Things, who were the first food truck I ever went to back in the summer of 2009.  That lunch gave me the idea for New York Street Food, and here we are two years later still eating street food for lunch nearly every day.

I’ve had several schnitzel platters, but never a schnitzel sandwich, so for Today’s Lunch, I got a pork schnitzel sandwich ($8) .

As we told you last week, tomorrow is National Iced Tea Day, and to celebrate, Snapple is teaming up with 5 of the best food trucks in NYC to give away 1,000 free lunches…and even more free Snapple iced tea.

We’re talking real lunches, not the sample sizes usually given away in free promotions. This is one of the better free food promotions we’ve seen.
