A NY TRADITION POPS UP IN SF

Amelia Nahman, whose last name translates from Hebrew as “comforter” will be opening up a cart in SF with the ultimate New York Street Food, an Egg Cream Cart.  As any New Yorker knows, there are no eggs or cream in an egg cream, but they are delicious nonetheless.  Chocolate syrup (Fox’s U-Bet is best), milk, seltzer and a spoon is all you need.  Brings back memories of my grandparents apartment in Boro Park.

Ever Hear of Politically Incorrect Street Food?

November 16th, 2009

SF Weekly found an Israeli street food vendor who sets up in various locations, often outside of bars, and calls himself Kike on a Bike.  (His name, not ours.)   The moniker may be offensive to some, but if you can get past the name, they say the middle eastern food is excellent.  Thanks to @eatstreetfood in SF for the tip.  [SF Weekly]

In Lake Worth, FL (near West Palm Beach), Swanky’s Low and Slow Barbecue has sandwiches made with pulled pork that has been cooked for 30 hours.  Next time I’m in South Florida, have to give it a try [Broward-Palm Beach New Times]

Rick Bayless' Xoco in Chicago

Jaunted, one of my favorite travel sites, catches up with Mexican food chef Rick Bayless in Chicago, where he opened a restaurant serving Mexican street food.  No reservations and crazy lines for lunch and dinner, so you might want to try breakfast  [Jaunted]
