TODAY’S LUNCH: KATI ROLL AND SOMOSA FROM THE SAMI DOSA CART

March 23rd, 2011

cart

I previously enjoyed some dosas from Velu Sami of the Sami Dosa cart when it was on Broadway & 53rd St, across from the Late Show at the Ed Sullivan Theater.

Velu moved his cart to the SW corner of 39th & Broadway a few months ago, and I haven’t had a chance to stop by his new location, until now.

Today’s Lunch is a fried kati roll and a somosa from the Sami Dosa cart.

SAMI DOSA CART MOVES TO 39TH & BDWY

I received an email last night from Velu Sami  of the Sami Dosa cart, which we’ve tried twice and wrote about here.  For everyone wondering why the Sami Dosa cart isn’t on Broadway across from Letterman anymore, he wanted to let me know that the cart has moved to 39th & Broadway.  He asked if I could tell my readers about this change.

Consider it done.

If you haven’t tried Sami Dosa, we recommend it.  Velu Sami is from South India and cooks food from that region such as dosas, uttapam and biryani.  He is also a really nice guy who just wants to share his cooking with everyone.

TODAY’S LUNCH: CHILI & ONION UTTAPAM FROM SAMI DOSA

I met my brother for lunch today.  He works in the building right across Broadway from the Late Show – and right where the Sami Dosa cart is situated (between 53rd & 54th St).  I told him about my lunch from Sami Dosa a few days ago and he wanted to try it too.  I also wanted to check out another dish, since I only tried the mysore masala dosa previously.

Today’s Lunch is the chili & onion uttapam from Sami Dosa ($5), with a cameo appearance by the masala dosa ($5) that my brother ate.  We also had a couple of samosas to check them out.

TODAY’S LUNCH: MYSORE MASALA DOSA FROM THE NEW SAMI DOSA CART

September 14th, 2010

cart sign

I work on 57th St & Broadway, and there are not a lot of great street food vendors around here.  Carnegie John’s and Jamaican Dutchy are the best, and then there’s the rest.  For great street food I either go over to 6th Ave or Park Ave, and when I go to Park Ave, it’s via the E train on 53rd St.

As I was heading there today, I saw a new cart with a big DOSA sign on the side.  It was on Broadway between 52nd & 53rd St, right across from the Ed Sullivan Theater where they tape the Late Show.  This was certainly a promising development.  I’m usually not much for vegetarian food, but I do like spicy food.  The NY Dosa Cart by Washington Square Park won the top Vendy Award back in 2007, and I’ve certainly enjoyed Thiru’s spicy dosas.

Today’s Lunch is the mysore masala dosa ($5) from the new Sami Dosa Cart.  Here’s their menu.  Click through to find out how lunch was.
