A few weeks ago, we told you about the new Neapolitan Express pizza truck. It was touted NYC’s first “green” truck, but that’s not entirely true.

Nevertheless, they use compressed natural gas, which emits nearly 75% less carbon emissions than gas and diesel food trucks. That’s a wonderful thing.

But we’re here to talk about what really matters – the pizza!

During our NYSF First Look, we tried the Margherita Pizza and a Cioccolato Pizza for dessert. The pizzas (or is it pizzae?) were both very good.

Next on our list was the Bufala, made with buffalo mozzarella, which costs $9. Let’s get cooking!

Over the past 2 weeks, Neapolitan Express has gotten a lot of press.  The mainstream media were all over them for a couple of days, after their big press conference with Mayor Bloomberg, T. Boone Pickens and the truck’s owner, Max Crespo. Those are some heavy hitters.

With Neapolitan Express being a food truck, of course we wrote about them too.

What everyone was writing about, and rightly so, was how Neapolitan Express runs on compressed natural gas, emitting nearly 75% less carbon emissions than trucks that run on gas and diesel.

Yesterday the truck finally hit the street around lunchtime, and we had a chance to try their food. Not only did we have a margherita pizza, but we also got a cioccolato pizza for dessert.

If you’re gonna go, go big!

We also got a very nice surprise after ordering, which you’ll have to read through to the end to find out.

The Green Truck (credit: NYSF)

About 2 weeks ago, there was a big hubbub in the press with the unveiling of Neapolitan Express.  Mainstream media outlets were calling them the city’s “first green food truck”. A noble pursuit, but Neapolitan Express weren’t exactly the first.

The mainstream media doesn’t know food trucks like we do. Not to take anything away from Neapolitan Express, who are doing something very good, but we  have enjoyed food from 2 other “green” food trucks  in NYC over the past few years.

UPDATE 2/23/13 – Thanks to Steve Bango for sending us their twitter account, @neaexpress. That enabled us to find their website here, their facebook here, and their menu here.

We know Mayor Bloomberg was a big supporter of food trucks bringing relief to victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Now the Mayor is throwing his support behind Neapolitan Express, a pizza truck that produces almost 75% less greenhouse gas emissions than those that run on gas and diesel.

From the front, it kind of looks like a hotel shuttle van, but we expect the food will be much better.
