Street Eats: Chicken Pad Thai from Muay Thai

December 7th, 2012

Not too long ago, we ran across a new pad thai cart on East 53rd St that was only on their 2nd day out. They didn’t even have a sign or a name yet, just  a pad thai photo taped to the side of the cart and a chalkboard menu.

The cart was gone for a couple of days, and has now reappeared on 48th St & Park Ave with a new name and decorations, which we told you about as well. What a difference a few days make.

The front of the cart is reminiscent of the Streets of Thailand food truck we went to in LA over a year ago.

On the side of the cart is a photo of a Thai kickboxer, and over the photo it says Muay Thai, Thai Street Food by Tuk Tuk Boy. If you recall, Tuk Tuk Boy is a Thai street food cart on West 50th St that we’ve been to a couple of times. This must be their 2nd cart. The menu looks the same too.

We asked for basil chicken, but were told they were out of it, and they only had pad thai. Considering it was only 1:15pm, our guess is being a new cart, they only had pad thai for now. Hopefully some of the other dishes will be added later on.

Our choices were shrimp, chicken or tofu pad thai. The shrimp last time was excellent, so this time we went with chicken for $7.

Update: New Pad Thai Cart Goes With The Name “Muay Thai”

September 11th, 2012

We recently told you about a tasty new pad thai cart that was only 2 days old, with the proprietor telling us it did not have a name yet. Looks like our little brainstorming session worked.

Kicking names around, the owner Arthur came up with Muay Thai, and we told him that we loved it. Now the cart has reappeared with the new name, sign, and location too.

Thanks to Michael H., who spotted the cart this morning on the south side of 48th Street, just west of Park Ave. We will be stopping by again today or tomorrow for lunch.

We also noticed the sign says Muay Thai, Thai Street Food by Tuk Tuk Boy. Guess they are affiliated with the Tuk Tuk Boy Thai cart on West 50th St.

Nice job on the new sign Arthur. That’s a kickass photo!

NYSF First Look: New Pad Thai Cart That Needs A Name

September 10th, 2012

UPDATE – 9/10/12: Stopped by the same spot today, and the pad thai cart was not there. We’ll check back again soon, but let us know if you’ve seen this cart at another location.

The things you find just walking around at lunch. Man, we love this city!

On Friday, we were heading over to Park Ave in the 50′s for lunch, but hadn’t decided where to go. King of Falafel, Uncle Gussy’s, Eggs Travaganza or someone else…so many choices.

Coming out of the 53rd-Lex station, we crossed Lexington and saw a new cart on the sidewalk of 53rd St, by the empty lot. There were no markings on the cart other than a large Pad Thai poster on each side, and a chalkboard menu on the front under the window. OK, let’s get some pad thai!

After placing my order for shrimp pad thai and paying $8, I asked the guy taking orders and handling money a few questions. His name was Arthur, this was only their 2nd day out (!), and they didn’t have a name yet for the cart.

Arthur then asked what we would name the cart. It took a minute, but we came up with a few ideas, and Arthur came up with an even better one during our brainstorming session while my lunch was being cooked.
