We’ve become big fans of Peruvian food in the past year or so. We didn’t know anything about Peruvian cuisine until Morocho popped up on Union Square West last year.

A few months later, Manos Peruanos appeared on 47th St between 6th & 7th Ave. Between the two, we’ve gotten a crash course in Peruvian food.

As we often say, keep an eye out for Daily Specials, which usually make good use of fresh and seasonal ingredients. Sometimes that means fish, one of our favorite foods to eat.

Manos Peruanos had escabeche de pescado as yesterday’s Especial de Hoy, and it cost $10. No worries if you don’t know Spanish. Just about everything on the menu was shown in both Spanish and English.

Street Eats: Aji de Gallina from Manos Peruanos

Not sure of what to get for lunch, we got out of the station at 47th St & 6th Ave, and were reminded immediately. That’s right, we’ve been wanting to try Manos Peruanos again.

Having  only been there once before, and enjoying a pretty good arroz con pollo, we wanted to try something a little more “Peruvian”. Being a big egg lover, the aji de gallina looked right up our alley.

There aren’t any prices listed on the menu, but after waiting about 5 minutes, lunch came out of the cart and cost $8.

Street Eats: Arroz Con Pollo from Manos Peruanos

Move over Morocho, there’s a new Peruvian food cart in town!

As we often do, we got out of the Rockefeller Center station at 47th St see what was happening along 6th Avenue. Before turning down 6th Ave, about midway down the block, there was a crowd of people around a food cart. Approaching the cart, we could see a large, beautiful photo on the side and the name, Manos Peruanos, Peruvian Hands.

Not too long ago, we were not familiar with Peruvian food, but after going through the menu at Morocho, we have a much better idea. Here they also have aji de gallino, lomo saltado, anticuchos and more.

We decided to get arroz con pollo for $8, which the woman recommended, plus a beef empanada for $3. FYI, only a few menu items had prices listed.
